The state fire marshal’s office is investigating a fire at 95 O’Moore Drive that destroyed the Shortnacy wooden pallet factory Friday night, said Battalion Chief Troy Brock of the Rome-Floyd Fire Department.

The call came in around 9 p.m. By 10:45 p.m., the fire was out, but firefighters were still dousing hot spots.

Firefighters were shuttling water from a hydrant about a half mile away to help douse the flames that scattered smoke in the area.

No one was in the building, which was about 2,000 square feet, Brock said. Firefighters remained on the scene late Friday night.

O’Moore Drive is in the Shannon Oaks community in northeastern Floyd County.
