DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say a 17-year-old Douglasville girl was killed after being struck by a car seconds after she got off her school bus.

Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution the girl stepped off the bus on Cedar Mountain Road in Douglas County around 7 p.m. Tuesday night.

He said Brandy Hart had exited the bus and was crossing the road when she was hit by a vehicle driven by a Douglasville woman.

Wright said the school bus was stopped with its red lights activated at the time of the accident.

Hart was transported to WellStar Douglas General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Douglas County Sheriff Phil Miller tells WSB-TV that Hart was returning home from an after-school event when she was killed.

How could someone drive through a school bus stopped with red lights blinking? I know it was dark but A school bus with blinking red lights? Carelessness and stupidity snuffs out another life.
