The Southern Athletic Association has announced the women’s basketball Player of the Week. Former Coosa star Mel McLean earned the weekly honor.

McLean, a sophomore guard from Cave Spring, Ga. and Coosa High School, had a great week as the Vikings posted a 3-0 record. She averaged 17.0 points per game, shot 53 percent (20-of-38) from the field, and was 9-of-23 from beyond the arc (43 percent).

She also averaged 5.6 rebounds per game, 4.0 assists per game, and 1.75 steals per contest during her dominant week. McLean had 14 points in a 51-49 win over Agnes Scott, and 17 in an 89-66 win at Covenant. Against Oglethorpe on Saturday, she netted a career-best 20 points in the 74-48 victory.

The Vikings (8-6) next play at Sewanee on Friday night.
