The Georgia Trauma Commission meets today and Friday at Floyd Medical Center for their annual meeting.

“Annually, for the last several years, the Trauma Commission has been having its annual planning meeting in Rome,” said Kurt Stuenkel, a member of the commission and CEO of Floyd Medical Center. “We meet for two days to go over achievements to date in meeting our goals, and to reconfirm or establish new strategic priorities.”

The Georgia Trauma Commission was created by the Georgia Legislature in 2007.

According to information on the group’s website, “The GTC has the responsibility to establish, maintain and administer a trauma center network and to coordinate the best use of existing trauma facilities in Georgia.”

The agenda for the commission includes an evaluation of the pilot project that looked at the possibility or regionalization of the statewide trauma network. Floyd Medical Center is a state-designated Level II trauma center serving 16 counties in Northeast Alabama and Northwest Georgia.

The meeting begins today with a closed session at 9 a.m. to review the performance of the commission members and the executive director.

The session opens to the public at 11:30 a.m.

Friday begins at 8 a.m. with a business meeting.

At 10:15 a.m., the Northwest Georgia-Region I EMS Regional Trauma System Plan will be presented. The meeting will end at 4 p.m.

The commission will meet both days in the Stuenkel Conference Center at Floyd Medical Center, 304 Turner McCall Blvd.
