The curfew put in place in Adairsville has been lifted, but life is still far from normal in the Bartow County city that was rocked by Wednesday’s tornado.

According to the Georgia Emergency Management Agency:

While the “dusk to dawn” curfew was lifted at the request of the Adairsville Police Department, police say anyone caught loitering, trespassing or looting will be arrested. Law enforcement agencies from through Northwest Georgia are assisting the city with enforcement patrols.

Shelter still open

The Red Cross shelter located in the Manning Mill Park Gym, 163 Manning Mill Road, is still open for residents who need a place to stay. The shelter will remain open for as long as it is needed.

The Donated Goods and Volunteer Services Center at the Adairsville Church of God, 297 Old Highway 41, will remain open today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Donations urgently needed today include: six dump trucks and six bobcats with grabber buckets for removing storm debris.

All volunteers are urged to call 770-773-3264 for information and to report to the Adairsville Church of God before going into the community.

On Sunday volunteers cleared more roads and collected more than 100 tons of debris. Debris removal efforts were estimated to be 85 percent complete.

Demolition & construction

Permits are required before commencing the demolition or construction of any structure. Those performing demolition or construction activities may apply for permits at Adairs­ville City Hall, 114 Public Square.

After a site has been cleared for utilities by a City of Adairsville inspector, a permit will be issued, along with any special instructions. Fees for residential permits will be waived through March 8.

City Hall will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. City services will be limited to:

Transfer of utility service account to new location if related to the storm

Payment of fines

Contractor registration

Gas and water leak calls

Connection of water and gas service (if transfer of service related to storm)

Disconnection of service for severely damaged properties

Tornado recovery operations

Boil water advisory

Because of a water main break caused by the tornado, a boil-water advisory remains in effect at least until Tuesday, Feb. 5.
