Cash, gun taken in burglary

Rome police are investigating the theft of a handgun and $1,000 in cash during a residential burglary on Woodbine Avenue.

According to the police report:

Someone kicked down the side door and entered the house while the resident was gone between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesday.

A Smith & Wesson .357 revolver, valued at $550, and about $1,000 that had been stored in two piggy banks was reported missing.

A neighbor reported seeing a suspicious male, described as 5-feet 11-inches tall and heavyset, in the area around 1:30 p.m.
