Gordon EMA Director: Federal disaster aid designation may change

Gordon County is currently not scheduled to receive federal aid for cleanup in the wake of the Jan. 30 tornado, however Gordon County EMA Director Richard Cooper says that could change.

“We haven’t met that threshold of dollar amount of uninsured damage so we don’t get that assistance,” said Cooper. “Most people that have been affected have insurance but there are so many out there that don’t.”

According to Cooper, the threshold must exceed $13 million in uninsured damages to receive public assistance funds for debris removal and rebuilding. Many assessments of monetary damages have not yet been completed and Cooper hopes that once the numbers and data continue to roll in, that Gordon will reach that mark for aid.
