An unidentified shooting victim remained in Floyd Medical Center late Friday night.
The shooting came to light Friday about 7:30 p.m. when the victim collapsed in the parking lot of Rick’s Food Mart at the corner of North Broad Street and North Avenue. A customer saw the man down and told a store clerk, who called 911.
According to officer Joel Stroupe of the Rome Police Department, the victim was shot in the abdomen, “probably on North Avenue,” then ran away and passed out in the convenience store parking lot.
Stroupe said the victim — whose name was not available Friday — told police he did not know who shot him.
The victim was in such pain that he was barely able to communicate with police, Stroupe said, but police are hopeful more information will be available today.
