Floyd County public safety agencies will get a chance to show how fast they can move during a dodge ball tournament sponsored by Safe Kids of Floyd County.

The tournament will be March 30 at 9 p.m. at the Thornton Recreation Center at North Floyd Park across Martha Berry Highway from Armuchee High School, according to Safe Kids coordinator Andrew Denmon.

Teams must have between six and 12 members and have at least two female members. The entry fee for each player is $15 and the tournament is limited to 16 teams.

The tournament will raise funds for Safe Kids, a nonprofit organization that works to reduce serious injuries and death in children.

Last year, Safe Kids gave out 128 car seats that were donated and held four car seat safety checks.

A program with the Supervision Services allows people on probation to donate car seats to Safe Kids instead of performing community service.

That program has brought in about 75 donated car seats since November, Denmon said.

Georgia law requires that children younger than age 8 be properly secured in an approved car seat or booster seat while riding in passenger automobiles, vans and pickup trucks. 

Denmon said he hopes to create a coalition in Polk, Chattooga and Floyd counties that will be called the Coosa Valley Child Passenger Safety Task Force.
