Symphony of Chocolate

A feast for the ears and the palette awaits Rome residents as the Rome Symphony Orchestra hopes to combine music and chocolate in one unforgettable event.

The “Chocolate concert” takes place Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the DeSoto Theatre. The unique concert features music from the film “Chocolat” starring Johnny Depp and Juliette Binoche as well as a special appearance by “Julia Child” as she sings the instructions to making he famous chocolate cake as it is prepared on stage.

Dr. Deborah Popham will sing Julia’s own words put to music by Lee Hoiby in this humorous performance.

Other food and wine themed music will be performed at the concert.

Tickets are $30 for adults, $20 for seniors and $5 for students. Tickets are available online at romesymphony.org as well as at Kroger, World Hi-Fi, the Rome Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Rome Symphony Orchestra office, Living and Giving and Bussey’s in Cedartown.

On Feb. 24, a symphony fundraiser at the Forrest Place Ballrooms from 2-4 p.m. offers an afternoon of delight for chocolate lovers. Local bakers will be preparing chocolate confections paired with red and sparkling wines while jazz musicians entertain.
