RTA driver cited in wreck

A Rome Transit Authority bus driver was cited for following too close following a Thursday afternoon wreck, according to a Rome police report.

According to the report:

Around 12:30 p.m. Thursday, a Rome Transit bus struck a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am in the rear while the car was attempting to turn right off Turner McCall Boulevard onto Martha Berry Boulevard.

Ophelia D. Onwudiwe, 42, 17 Sagewood Drive, was cited in the incident.

The driver of the car claimed to be stopping for a pedestrian when the collision occurred.

Seven passengers were on the bus.

Only the car driver was reported as injured. The report did not indicate the severity of the injury or if the driver sought medical attention.
