Now that President Obama has been re-elected, the “Gimmies” will be happy. Gimmie is a contraction of “give me,” a slang word meaning give me material things or especially money and such things, as free health care, free housing, free food, more unemployment compensation and any thing the Gimmies don’t have to work for.

Gimmies are usually of the Liberal persuasion, mainly Democrats. If the President keeps spending and giving free stuff, as he has been in the past four years, without the Congress and Senate reeling in his spending, we will soon be bankrupt.

Not only are President Obama and the Democrats overspending, they are beginning to form a monolithic-type political system which is very large and powerful and difficult to change. Obama’s policy of my way or no way and using Presidential recess appointments to put more of his henchmen in important positions without the Senate’s approval, is part of this plan. The Speaker of the House, John Boehner, has said Mr. Obama was seeking to annihilate the Republican Party.

Both parties need to go to a middle-of-the road approach and try to solve the country’s problems before we get any further down the slippery slope.

Our country is in an unusual situation. We are in an inflation mode because of spiraling prices in the commodities market and in a recession at same time because of the loss of the manufacturing base and the housing market,

It’s a round robin effect because people can’t find jobs to make the money to buy the products the factories make and the factories cannot stay open and hire people to work if they cannot sell their products.

Making guns illegal will not stop or slow gun deaths. No more so than making murder illegal. If Liberals got their wish and guns were outlawed tomorrow, the same people who say we can't round up 10 million illegal aliens believe at the same time that we can round up 300 MILLION previously legal guns? That's plain ignorance, but tolerated by the media and the kool-aid drinkers.

I don't know many people (always exceptions to the rule) that begrudge someone for getting temporary government assistance in a tough time. But at some point, the assistance has to stop. It should be a helping hand up, not a way of life. The fact that we have built entire complexes of government housing where people live their entire lives shows which of the two it is right now. The problem is the government is involved. Churches and civic organizations have helped those in need for the entirety of U.S. history. I'm not sure why liberals don't like that, maybe it's because the churches and civic organizations don't take your money at the point of a gun, or maybe it's because you can't buy votes with charitable donations, but either way it is immoral to take the honest earnings of one, against his will, and give it to another simply because they want or need it.

Finally, please control your deck of race cards. Democrats only give you one deck a year, so if you drop one during every discussion, you'll likely run out before Christmas, errr sorry "The Holiday Season".

First of all, thank you for caring enough to speak your mind. However:

Why are you discussing taking away guns? The proposals have already been made, and none of them say they are taking anyway guns. This is the same extremism that I mentioned in response to the joke who posted below. If you want to intelligently rebuke something, rebuke something that exists. For example, what do you think about limiting the amount rounds in ammunition. You know, real world stuff. Not imaginary, pot stirring, rhetoric that you likely DID hear on one of the talk shows.

Buying votes? Please direct me to one headline that states that anyone was caught buying a vote. That's rhetoric. There are abusers of the welfare system indeed. The GOP says "don't punish the many for what a few do" when discussing guns, but then do EXACTLY that when discussing entitlement programs. "Enforce the laws" you say regarding guns, but ignore that when discussing entitlements.

I won't even discuss racism. It's ridiculous.

Instead of funneling Beck or Hannity, address the issues.

1. Is it OK with you that so many are dying from gun related deaths?

Unless you are a completely heartless idiot, the answer is no to my first question. So, don't talk politics...offer a solution, not one that Limbaugh farted from his mouth.

2. Do you believe that a family of four making $50,0000 whose bread winner has lost his/her job deserves temporary assistance in the form of food stamps or Medicaid while he searches for another job?

This entitlement issue stems directly from the GOP/TP's vision that EVERY person in need of assistance is a minority who drives an Escalade and uses their food stamps to buy junk food. Extremism lets you focus on the very small percentage of people who abuse the system, while leaving out the huge majority that actually has good intentions. That majority doesn't feel good about needing assistance and works their butts off to be in a position where they DON'T need it.

@RyanM,

I never asked you to work with me. However, since you brought it up, AFTER you pass basic history and get out into the REAL world and get a REAL job, get back to me on that!

Socialism doesn't work. It's a pretty theory but not compatible with human nature. Read your history books! Look at the USSR, Venezuela, Cuba and now the European Union! Their economies crashed, or are crashing. Robin Hood was a good story, but it was FANTASY!

I guess you'd have some concept of what socialism actually is before you'd be able to understand how silly the comparison is.

I can't do the work for you.

Thanks formerroman.

@wheninrome. Yes that story is copied & pasted but it shows a point. Why do we have to keep coming up with more & more examples to prove the same point, when all you can come up with is name calling? I have made a decision on what I think. Just because I happen to agree with someone else doesn't mean I can't or don't think for myself.

@Ryanm. How is it a faulty comparison? The point is that there are some people who expect things to be given to them - whether their lack of having those things is their fault or not - and there are people who are willing to work to get what they have. When the workers realize that no matter how hard they work, part of what they work for is going to be given to the others, they lose interest in working because it isn't benefitting them as much. That's pretty much the same as the 'professor' story.

And I'm NOT an advocate of Socialism! But you're right - I am biased - against anything that is going to take away what I've worked damn hard for!

Not only is the economics professor thing not real, it's a faulty comparison. You don't have to be an advocate of socialism to see this. Just unbiased.

This is a riot. Name the teacher. Huh? You can't? That's because you copy and pasted this from one of 100 different sites that have it posted. Some are religious zealot sites, some Libertarian stance sites, but GEEZ. You even took the time to say you don't listen to Hannity, et. al. to point out that the truth is the truth is the truth. BUT THESE ARE NOT YOUR THOUGHTS! You could have changed the wording at least...

My point remains...THINK! For yourself, for your family, for your nation...stop saying what you hear and make a decision on what you believe in.

For anyone that cares, you can copy and paste THIS into google, and you'll see this BS "local professor" story as well as the rest of what this guy wrote word for word. Laughable. Commander Girish K. • Food For Thought : Why Socialism will not work - The one that started this original discussion:

And for the record, the actual quote of the 5 most important sentences any of us will ever read come from Adrian Rogers. He was the three term president of the Southern Baptist Convention.

@wheninrome, in answer to your questions:

1. Is it OK with you that so many are dying from gun related deaths? No, but passing more gun control laws isn't going to help. We can't enforce the ones we have, plus the people who intend to cause harm aren't going to turn theirs in or register them anyway. We need to use the funds we have available more productively.

2. Do you believe that a family of four making $50,0000 whose bread winner has lost his/her job deserves temporary assistance in the form of food stamps or Medicaid while he searches for another job? Yes but the key word there in TEMPORARY.

As far as 'funneling Beck or Hannity', I don't listen to either of them so I'm not 'funneling' anyone. It's just the truth is the truth is the truth. That doesn't change, not matter how many excuses you come up with to try to convince someone otherwise.

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan".. All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A.... (substituting grades for dollars - something closer to home and more readily understood by all).

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.

The second test average was a D! No one was happy.

When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed. Could not be any simpler than that. (Please pass this on) These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read and all applicable to this experiment:

1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Rhuidean wrote "And finally…someone who actually cares about the middle class will occupy the oval office. "

I thought he had already been there for four years? You know the one that has kept the economy collapsing, put more debt on America than any other president, and raised tax rates on every working man and woman in the United states.

As far as the gimmies, it's not so much Grandma Jones who worked at the factory all her life and now gets a social security check, it's more about those people in front of me at the grocery store with three buggies full of cheetos and energy drinks, and they don't pay a dime for it because they are "entitled" to free food simply because they exist. It's those who go to the E.R. for their persistent back pain, migraines and nervous conditions and when they don't get their drug of choice, they go down the street to another E.R. and start the process over again. It's those who have been on unemployment checks for 3 years either because they would rather get free money than work OR because they can't find a job due to Obama's Hope/Change economy.

Your 47% quip is right on the money. That kind of talk no longer gets one elected. Democrats are willing to buy the votes of the poor, lazy and inept. Republicans should jump on board. Promising jobs and opportunity no longer works as well as promising free money and food.

You're wasting your time with rhuidean07. She is one of the not so educated sheep. The middle class was buried the last 4 years just like Biden said. This administration will continue to bury the middle class. It's obvious since rhuidean07 thinks that this administration is for the middle class she must not be in the class. She must be one of the gimmies.

You're right, Enforcer. It's just when I read her comment yesterday, I couldn't manage to keep my mouth shut. (Or maybe I should say, keep my fingers still!)

Someone pointed out to me the other day that THE PEOPLE have spoken so I "need to shut up & get over it." I'm just trying I can survive it! I'm just hoping THE PEOPLE finally have to deal with the consequences of their actions, but of course, they won't see it as 'their' actions. It will be the Republicans or some other groups' fault, as usual!

Brad,

I read your letter and was surprised that those on the right are still eager to those who are less fortunate as “Gimmies”.

Dude.....You channeled Mitt Romney’s 47%. That worked so well for the right wing on election night. So please keep it up.

I am very happy that President Obama was reelected. Not for any of the reasons you gave so here are a few of mine.

1. Obamacare will not be gutted by the right wing and their Tea Party Zealots

2. DOMA will continue it’s inexorable march towards repeal

3. Immigration reform will happen. Over the screeching of the right wing nutjobs.

4. The minimum wage will go up

5. Gun control regulations will be enacted

And finally…someone who actually cares about the middle class will occupy the oval office.

You rail against those who want “Free things”. Tell me who are they????

Might it be the elderly who paid into social security for decades and want their earned benefits?

Might it be those who pay for Medicaid wanting their Benefits?

Or how about those retired military that want their pensions?

But wait I just bet you are taking about the family of 4 whose job was outsourced by Mitt Romney and his GOP/TP cronies….

You know the one who everyone demands be drug tested to get unemployment?

The ones who try to feed their families on $ 350 per month….

That same family of four who work two to three minimum wage jobs just to not starve?

And when their children are sick have to visit the ER and listen to condescending nurses and doctors?

Sound OK to you? Yeah that describes the GOP/TP of today.

You Wrote: Gimmies are usually of the Liberal persuasion, mainly Democrats. If the President keeps spending and giving free stuff, as he has been in the past four years, without the Congress and Senate reeling in his spending, we will soon be bankrupt

I reply: You need to go back to school and take an economics class. The only ones bankrupting America are Republicans and Tea partiers. The nation ran a surplus during the Clinton presidency. The Obama administration has reduced spending more than any administration since the 1950’s. Only Limbaugh, Beck and the really crazies even bother to repeat that lame line anymore.

You Wrote: Not only are President Obama and the Democrats overspending, they are beginning to form a monolithic-type political system which is very large and powerful and difficult to change. Obama’s policy of my way or no way and using Presidential recess appointments to put more of his henchmen in important positions without the Senate’s approval, is part of this plan. The Speaker of the House, John Boehner, has said Mr. Obama was seeking to annihilate the Republican Party.

I reply: Add history to your school classes. Study the history of recess appointments.

I so hope President Obama annihilates the Republican Party. Please oh Please....Let it happen...

America would be better for it. Sadly that comment is just BS rhetoric from a completely incompetent drunk speaker of the house.

You Wrote: Both parties need to go to a middle-of-the road approach and try to solve the country’s problems before we get any further down the slippery slope.

I reply: This both side middle of the road meme is complete bull poop. Republicans and Tea Partiers do not know the meaning of the word compromise.

No..... they want Trans Vaginal probing, Drug Testing of the poor while handing billions out in tax cuts for corporations, concealed carry permits for everyone, Prayer in school, Deny climate change, Spend like drunken sailors till a democrat is president, Lie us into war that kill thousand of our sons and daughters, want to repeal the voting rights act and use class warfare every day.

You Wrote: Our country is in an unusual situation.

I reply: Again I recommend more education. This last paragraph is just nonsense.

Rhuidean,

It's cranio-rectal impacted, legend-in-their-own-minds idiots like yourself who give Democrats and liberals in general a bad name.

You rail about people who 'deserve' without consideration of where those funds are going to come from? Do you have children? Do they not 'deserve' the fashions & toys the other kids have? If your income doesn't support purchasing those items, do you buy them anyway and not bother with the mortgage/rent & the power bill? (Perhaps if the DEMOCRATIC controlled government hadn't combined the Social Security fund with the General Government fund in the 1960's, Social Security wouldn't be in the mess it is today.)

Why do we need more gun control laws? The ones we have aren't enforced or even enforceable.

Who is going to pay for Obamacare? Again, I refer you to the home budget model. There is a limited supply of money - in government and in private homes. Some things have to be cut in order to fund others. It's all a matter of priority. WE CAN'T AFFORD FOR EVERYONE TO HAVE EVERYTHING THEY WANT!!

As far as education, perhaps it's time for YOU to graduate with your Liberal Arts degree and try to find a real job in the real world! THEN maybe you won't sound as ignorant as your post indicates.

I like how Brad had to explain what a 'gimmie' is, and ironically while it is usually the dems defending these programs I see mostly 'conservatives' using them. (conservative in quotes b/c they aren't real conservatives, they're the people who parrot hate and other nonsense they hear on AM radio, from the comfort of their taxpayer funded couch.*)

Nonetheless this is something both sides need to work together on. The dems need to reform these social programs and the reps need to reform their corporate welfare programs.

*I realize there is also a lot of people who legitimately use these programs to get back on their feet. These people usually don't have time to sit around and complain.
