Firefighters and emergency personnel responded to a structure fire at 29 Shorthorn Road around 8:15 a.m. and found the home to be fully involved.
According to Gary Ray Johnson with the Rome-Floyd Fire Department, eight adults and four children were inside the mobile home at the time of the fire, which began in a back bedroom that was occupied by two teenage girls.
One of the two, a 19-year-old, received minor burns to her right side and leg while another woman was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Both were treated at Floyd Medical Center and released later Monday.
Johnson said all of the occupants were able to get out of the home on their own.
“Someone inside yelled that the bed was on fire and one female grabbed her 5-year-old child and escaped from the building,” Johnson said.
He said the other teenage girl in the bedroom where the fire started reported that she had to jump over the flames to get out.
Battalion Chief Phil Langston said that there was extensive damage to the inside of the structure. Firefighters were still on the scene an hour after arriving to put out hot spots.
Sarah Egan, Emergency Services director for the Northwest Georgia Chapter of the American Red Cross, said they are providing assistance for eight of the people displaced by the fire.
She indicated that two families were living in the home.
