Salyer faces two counts of rape, one count of statutory rape, three counts of child molestation, five counts of aggravated child molestation and one count of criminal attempt to commit a felony. He is accused of molesting an 8-year-old relative and two other children he befriended at church over a period of several years.
Salyer’s case has been scheduled to be tried or otherwise adjudicated several times.
A plea deal fell through in December and, in January, the attorney representing him withdrew, citing ethics rules that prohibit lawyers from knowingly presenting false information. Another attorney agreed to represent him but said he wasn’t yet prepared to try the case.
Salyer is now scheduled for a March 7 calendar call, at which he is expected to announce he is ready for the trial to begin on March 11.
