Lindale is providing a great lesson in efforts by some of its community members to restore Silver Creek and rid it of pollution from human sources. Within days of the continuing cleanup being started the ducks that once were, along with the textile plant chimneys, the trademark sight of the community were back splashing happily in the mill pond. They even brought some geese with them from their exile at some lake close by.
What a great lesson this is in environmental stewardship and its value. Maybe local schools could now use it as a real-life lesson in what is too often presented as a theory. And, for sure, families can again take their children to the pond for the Lindale tradition of feeding the ducks.
