The dairy’s Applewood Smoked Gouda cheese, made from milk produced by Berry College’s herd of Jersey cows, is one of three finalists in the dairy products division of the contest.
Jeff and Karen Greer, owners of the Udderly Cool Dairy made a decision to get their milk from the Berry Jersey herd because, in part, the milk from the berry dairy is free of both hormones and antibiotics.
The Greers have been manufacturing cheeses at their Carroll County farm since the summer of 2010 and the Smoked Gouda is one of their newest products.
The Flavor of Georgia Food Product Contest is a chance for food businesses to highlight their new products and gather feedback from a panel of food industry professionals.
Sharon Kane, contest coordinator and food business development specialist at the Center for Agribusiness and Environmental Sciences at the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, have run the contest for the past seven years.
