COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) — Georgia-based Carmike Cinemas reports that it is wrapping up work on a northern Alabama movie theater complex and preparing to build another one in Atlanta's suburbs.

The Columbus company said Thursday that construction will begin soon on a 13-screen complex across from The Avenue shopping center in Snellville, just northeast of Atlanta.

Company executives say the Carmike 13 complex in Snellville will seat 2,800 moviegoers.

In Alabama, Carmike will also have a grand opening for a 12-screen theater March 7 in Decatur Mall on Beltline Road in Decatur, Ala. It seats 2,300.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports that the movie-theater chain has complexes in the works for several other communities including the Alabama cities of Opelika and Montgomery.

Hopefully they put Rome, Georgia on their list of cities to build. The movie theatres here are horrible and terribly outdated. Someone needs to come in and give Gary Smith a run for his money. Ticket prices here have sky rocketed since he gained a monopoly in Rome. He hasn't done much to improve the venues of the theatres here in Rome either. We generally drive to the Carmike in Cartersville, sure the drive is long but it is the same proce and a much nicer theatre, the theatre in Cartersville is a Carmike too. They build nice theatres.
