The Northwest Georgia Regional Cancer Coalition, Inc. was awarded a grant in the amount of $20,000 by It’s The Journey, Inc., producer of the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer.

The grant will fund diagnostic breast biopsies for indigent women in the Bartow, Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Gordon, Polk and Walker Counties. This grant is one of 19 It’s The Journey awarded this year to breast cancer programs across Georgia.

“We work all year for this one night – to present grants to the most deserving breast health and breast cancer programs in the state.” said Kimberly Goff, Executive Director of It’s The Journey, Inc. “We want to ensure that these organizations can continue to provide services from basic clinical exams to hereditary screening and follow-up treatment for breast cancer. We are proud that our funds remain focused on local needs that make a difference in Georgia communities.”

It’s The Journey, Inc. held its annual grantee celebration at Maggiano’s Little Italy in Buckhead on March 4 to celebrate the recipients and the work they do in their communities throughout Georgia. Nineteen deserving organizations across the state were awarded grants. The recipients included those who provide screening and treatment to underserved communities, educate patients on early detection practices and offer multi-language treatment options. The 11th annual Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer takes place October 5 - 6 of this year. All of the money raised here, stays here in Georgia. To register for the 2-Day Walk, visit www.2daywalk.org.
