From the initial brainstormed scribblings to the final polishing of stanzas, five Pepperell High School students evoked the rustic rainbow of canyon colors and endless Western skies in poems they’ll recite during the Cowboy Poetry Contest this Saturday at the Booth Western Art Museum.

Pepperell High School AP Language and American Literature students participated in the Literary Writing Contest sponsored by the Museum located at 501 Museum Drive in Cartersville.

Eight finalists were selected from the state of Georgia for the Cowboy Poetry Contest, five of whom are Pepperell High students.

The finalists are Jessi Hackett, Nolan Thompson, Masumi Askew, Hayden Owen and Grafton Flock.

Pepperell High also has two more finalists who were selected for the narrative poetry contest: Savannah Crabbe and Jack Bevis.

A news release issued by Floyd County Schools presented Crabbe’s poem, “My Mother Cry,” and Owen’s poem, “A Sense of Time.”

Crabbe’s work expresses the lamentation of a Native American child’s painful trek to a reservation with her mother.

Owen’s poem explores how the beauty and elegance of Western landscapes are carved into the earth to their perfections over time.

The final recitations will be held at the Booth Museum on Saturday at 10 a.m.
