Cancer Navigators’ main benefit of 2013 is under way with crews all over Floyd and Polk counties playing host to an array of fundraisers.

On tap Saturday is the Warrior Path bazaar from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Rome Civic Center. Presented by the Warriors Against Cancer crew from Harbin Clinic's Business Office, the event already has two dozen booths reserved where local vendors and teams will be selling all kinds of items, including crafts, T-shirts and food.

Official Cast Off Against Cancer event T-shirts are now on sale at the Cancer Navigators office at 310 W. 10th St. in Rome and will be available at the Warrior Path as well this weekend. The shirt design is a painting by folk artist Ken "Blacktop" Gentle with graphic design by Heather Koon, Magnolia designer. Short-sleeve shirts are $10 and long-sleeve are $15.

Other events on tap include a couple of raffles, the permit for which has been issued by the Floyd County Sheriff's Office. Heritage First Bank Changemakers are holding a drawing for a Bennelli Super Black Eagle II 12g Max4 shotgun valued at $1,600. Tickets are $10 each or 11 for $100 and are available at local Heritage First branches and at Cancer Navigators.

For high-tech enthusiasts, the Logical Systems crew is giving away an A.R. Drone radio-controlled aircraft that can be maneuvered with your smart phone or device. Tickets are available at Cancer Navigators. The Floyd Medical Center Lab's Paddle Posse has an inspirational quilt giveaway and Bible verse T-shirts that are selling like hotcakes. Joining them are more teams from Harbin and Floyd as well Redmond Regional Medical Center, Polk Medical Center, Georgia Northwestern Technical College, United Community Bank, Toles Temple & Wright Real Estate as well as teams headed by grateful cancer survivors. The latest information on crew events and fundraisers can be found on the Cancer Navigators Facebook page.

The crews' fundraising will culminate with a celebration from 2-4 p.m. on April 7. The event will kick off at the Harbin Clinic Tony E. Warren, M.D., and continue along the riverfront with festivities at Heritage Park, including entertainment by local singer Scott Thompson and the annual flower drop into the river to honor those who have valiantly battled cancer. The public is invited to the celebration.

“Cast Off Against Cancer is the cornerstone of our fundraising needs for the year, but it is also a celebration of all the cancer survivors in our midst as well as our community and healthcare partnerships,” said Charlotte Atkins, executive director for Cancer Navigators. “That's why a celebration at the confluence of our local rivers is perfectly symbolic of the coming together that's needed to help make the journey of cancer patients and their loved ones easier to navigate.”

The nonprofit helps cancer patients in the region who need the one-on-one services provided by Cancer Navigators, helping them navigate their journey from diagnosis through treatment and into survivorship and connecting them to needed resources. Cancer Navigators is 100 percent supported by donations, which stay in the local community to carry out the mission of helping cancer patients.

Cast Off Against Cancer is sponsored by Floyd Medical Center, Harbin Clinic, Redmond Regional Medical Center, State Mutual Insurance, Georgia Northwestern Technical College and Heritage First Bank.
