Rebecca Mullenax, a senior at Coosa High School, has been selected as the school's STAR student for 2013. Mullenax named Rick Riordan, an AP Calculus teacher at Coosa High School, as her STAR Teacher. Mullenax and Riordan were presented with the honors recently at a student assembly at Coosa High.

During her time as a student at CHS, Mullenax received multiple awards for academic and athletic accomplishments. Her awards include: excellence in AP Calculus, AP History, literature, biology, Spanish and chemistry. Mullenax also received the Presidential Award of Excellence in 2010, 2011, 2012. She not only has excelled in the classroom at Coosa, but also in athletics. Mullenax has been MVP of both her cross-country and track teams, and she was a state qualifier in both track and cross country. She has also served as the co-captain of her cross-country team for the past two years. Mullenax has been an active member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) Leadership team since 2010 and is currently serving as this year’s FCA president at Coosa.

Mullenax will graduate from Coosa High in May with an Honors College Preparatory Seal. She plans to pursue a degree in engineering.

The Student-Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) award, sponsored by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce; the Georgia Department of Education and the Professional Association of Georgia Educators, is presented to a high school senior with the school’s highest SAT score and ranking in the top ten percent or top ten members of the school’s senior class. Each STAR student selects a STAR Teacher in the recognition program.
