ATLANTA (AP) — Anime fans and gamers are converging on a downtown Atlanta hotel for Momocon — an annual anime and video game convention.

The event began in 2005 with 700 visitors and organizers say more than 8,600 people visited the convention last year.

Organizers say the convention brings fans together to meet the voices and writers behind some of their favorite shows, characters and video games. The convention features more than 20 events, including costume and anime music video contests, a rave dance party and concerts.

The event began Friday and runs through Sunday at the Hilton Atlanta. Registration is $20.
