SunTrust passes Fed stress test

SunTrust Banks Inc. was one of 17 banks that passed the Federal Reserve’s stress test.

The report released March 7 found the nation’s largest banks continue to improve their ability to withstand a hypothetical extreme economic scenario and are collectively in a stronger capital position than before the crisis.

In a Securities and Exchange Commission filing, Atlanta-based SunTrust (NYSE: STI) estimated it would maintain a Tier 1 common ratio above 9 percent throughout the nine-quarter forecast horizon.
