Local forecast: Sunny weekend ahead, after rainy Monday

Just more than a quarter of an inch of rain, 0.77 inches, was reported Monday at Richard B. Russell Regional Airport, according to the National Weather Service.

Rome is still maintaining a precipitation surplus for the year, tallying 15.67 inches through Monday, well above the 11.58 average during the same time period.

So far, Rome has received 1.2 inches of rain in March, just below the 1.98 inch monthly average through March 11.

The overall forecast for the week looks good, according to the NWS:

Today: Sunny, with a high near 60.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 33.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 54.

Wednesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 29. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 57.

Thursday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 35.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 66.

Friday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 44.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 71.
