LaGrange rallies past Vikings, 7-6, in baseball

LaGrange rallied from an early three-run hole to beat Berry 7-6 in a non-conference game Tuesday.

Berry dropped to 8-7 and LaGrange improved to 10-9.

Zach Farmer led the Vikings at the plate, going went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Alex McGill was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and Stephen Gaylor had two hits in four at-bats.

The two teams swapped runs in the first inning. The Vikings took a 1-0 lead in the top of the inning, but the Panthers answered in their half of the inning.

Berry came back with two runs in the second inning and two more in the third. The Panthers stayed within striking distance with a run in each of the second and third innings.

Berry tied the game 6-6 with a run in the fifth inning. The Vikings put together a two-out threat in the top of the seventh.

The Vikings loaded the bases off Jacobs with an error, a base hit and a walk. Brooks came on and struck out TC Boyd on three pitches to end the threat and the inning.

Nerbonne hit a flare down the right field line with one out to get the Panthers going in their half of the seventh. Pinch-hitter Jim Reed bunted his way on and Espinosa’s hit through the left side loaded the bases. Schuck grounded out to short as Nerbonne scored the go-ahead run.

Berry hosts Maryville on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
