Rome police say a woman was taken to the hospital after a Wednesday wreck on U.S. 411 that involved an 18-wheeler.

The wreck happened about 4 p.m. at Chulio Road. According to Pfc. Danny Story, the 18-wheeler was going east on the highway when the collision with the Nissan Altima occurred.

“The tractor-trailer ran the red light, struck the other vehicle,” Story added.

The 18-wheeler had damage to its front. The Altima was stopped in the median, its driver side partially crumpled in.

“When (authorities) arrived, she was unresponsive and breathing,” Story said of the Altima’s driver.

The woman, however, woke and was speaking before she was taken to the hospital. Her condition is unknown.

The wreck completely stopped eastbound traffic on U.S. 411 for about 30 minutes.
