The event, sponsored by Shorter’s chapter of the International Justice Mission (IJM) organization, is designed to raise awareness for the plight of the 27 million individuals who are enslaved around the world. Students will spread the word by standing in the Front Circle area of Shorter’s hilltop campus.
The Stand for Freedom event is part of a national initiative involving college students.
The event is also a fundraiser for the Shorter chapter of IJM, and students have secured sponsors for their participation.
“The Shorter University chapter of IJM was founded at the beginning of this semester,” said Ana Martin, a member of Shorter’s IJM chapter. “IJM is dedicated to bringing justice to the suffering and oppressed around the world, looking to Christ and His mercy as the ultimate cause and example for biblical justice. The official vision for IJM, which our chapter seeks to reflect and abide by is ‘to rescue thousands, protect millions, and prove that justice for the poor is possible.”
In conjunction with Shorter’s Stand for Freedom event, the university’s Office of International Programs and Baptist Collegiate Ministries will sponsor “Stand for Freedom…The Day After.” Participants will spend Saturday, March 16, learning about human trafficking and listening to presentations by law enforcement agents and non-profit organization workers.
“We will worship together and explore God’s passion for justice,” said Linda Palumbo Olszanski, assistant vice president for international programs at Shorter.
Sessions planned include a study on God’s Passion for Justice and a viewing of the Freedom Film; a presentation by FBI Agent Adam Rowland, who is a human trafficking specialist; and a session titled “What Happens After Victims are Rescued?,” which will be presented by Paul Bowley, director of donor relations for Wellspring Living in Atlanta. Wellspring creates restorative environments for victims of childhood trauma and sexual exploitation. Saturday’s events begin at 9 a.m. in the Austin Moses Room at Shorter.

Our country has an entire race enslaved through food stamps, medicaid, and public housing. If anybody strays they put them back in their place via the state run media.
