Rome police say a flatbed truck sideswiped a Rome Transit Department bus carrying some 40 students Friday afternoon, but no injuries were reported.

The incident happened about 4 p.m. on Martin Luther King Boulevard, near its intersection with North Broad Street. The bus was headed toward downtown when the truck sideswiped it and kept going, Pfc. Rick Robinson said.

“Based on what we could gather, he probably didn’t know he hit it,” the officer added.

There appeared to be no damage to the bus, and no one was hurt, Robinson said.

The bus was stopped by a gas station as police investigated the incident. Traffic was unimpeded.
