According to Rome police reports, the Friday burglaries are believed to have happened sometime between 4:15 and 5:30 p.m. They were discovered when a couple returned home from dinner and were unable to get inside their home.
Police were forced to break down the door, and once inside they discovered the apartment ransacked. Further evidence led officers to two other apartments, one of which was empty.
Police reported they were able to recover some costume jewelry and purses and return them to their owner in one apartment. But a black .22 caliber handgun, more than $7,400 in jewelry, $600 in cash and other items remain missing.
Officers found all three apartments broken into with the chain locks on the front door in place and two of the apartments ransacked.
