"We don’t make the call to shut something down," Poe said. "But we have all participated in training exercises for pandemic flu."

AAAUUUGGGHH!! The pig flu, I mean the Andromeda Strain, now has a foothold in Georgia!! Lock your doors; close your windows (curtains, too); disengage all public activities (unless you're wearing one of those cute and HIGHLY EFFECTIVE masks), and update your will!!!!

We need health care NOW. Of course, I blame Bush for not foreseeing the onslaught of the Strain and for not having an adequate government-provided health care system in place to take care of us during this, our darkest hour!

Thank goodness the government and CNN are watching our backs on this thing, or I wouldn't have a clue how to exercise my duty to engage in hysterics!!! I feel better already!

ghostwriter, you know it will be your fault if they change the names from "swine flu" to "the Andromeda Strain". Of course, with the media it will be called "the Andromeda Strain times 40 billion!!!". The Obama administration will call it a "nature-made disaster".

Indeed, this pig flu stuff is media-flamed hysteria. Remember the swine flu fiasco of 1976? Everybody just chill and take common-sense protective measures, as one would for any contagious disease. This is NOT the Andromeda Strain. When the earth is in imminent danger of an asteroid strike, then we can all panic in one long, continuous scream. Until then, take a deep breath and pray that Obama's relaxed view of the war on terror - I mean, "man-made disasters" doesn't result in a justified panic.

Would you quit printing/posting this crap? It seems the media is attempting to cause a panic over something that has killed around 100 people. Influenza(the "normal" type) causes the death of around 36,000 people each year and people are going crazy over something that has killed .28% of that number. The actual number has not even been confirmed yet.

The idiots at WHO are trying to initiate a stir to panic and I want to know why. If 50,000 or 100,000 people had died because of influenza A(H1N1)(stop calling it swine flu, it makes you look stupid), then you might have something to talk about(I stress MIGHT).

Also, wearing these surgical mask sure does make for some sensational reporting; it does nothing to prevent infection. The influenza virus is MUCH smaller than the gaps that exist in the material that makes up these mask. You have ZERO protection from any type of influenza with the stupid mask.

If you are sick, stay home. Do not be stupid and try to show how "dedicated" you are to your work. Do not push your sick kids out of the door because you are too lazy to take care of them. This is not just for the influenza A(H1N1) virus; this is if you are(actually) sick in general.

People need to realize that we are not in control of whether we live or die. You can take all of the precautions in the world and it will do you no good. The media needs to realize this as well and stop this attempt to raise people's fear level. It is well know that a person is smart; people are stupid. When you report a story, and sensationalize it to cause fear; you excite the heard.

Please do not excite the heard anymore.
