Woman charged with obstruction

Rome police arrested an Alabama woman on Sunday after she was allegedly intoxicated and trying to hitchhike on Turner McCall Boulevard.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Charlotte Diane Norton, 59, of Centre, Ala., was arrested by Rome police around 10:30 a.m. She was charged with giving a false name to law enforcement; obstruction; standing in a roadway to solicit a ride; and being a pedestrian under the influence.

Police said she was trying to stop cars at Turner McCall and Avenue A to get a ride. When officers questioned her, she was found to be under the influence of drugs and she also gave them false information.

Norton was found to have a failure to appear warrant and remains in jail without bail.
