City Commissioner Buzz Wachsteter, who chairs the committee, said the session was "basically a fact-finding meeting" with preliminary discussions on "where we are and where we should go."
Members asked JJ&G consultants to present several more options at the September meeting.
"No one wants to raise rates but, unfortunately -- and this is happening around the world -- we're selling less water but our cost to produce it is going up," Wachsteter said.
The committee expects to make a recommendation to the Rome City Commission in September. Any changes would be effective in January 2010.

Why must we let our elected leaders hire consultants? I thought we hired businessman and businesswomen. Are these guys lazy or what?
