Wright W. Smith, a Rome native and local attorney, has been elected chairman of the board of directors of Citizens First Bank, according to a recent announcement by Angie Lewis, president and chief executive officer.

Smith’s tenure with the financial institution spans more than 20 years. He joined Citizens Federal Savings and Loan Association as a director in 1987 and continued his leadership upon election to the board of Citizens First Bank when it became a state chartered bank in 1992. He has served as chairman of the audit committee and as a member of the executive committee.

In making the announcement on behalf of the board, Lewis said, “We are pleased to have Mr. Smith assume this new leadership role on our board. He has been an integral part of our board for many years and his experience and understanding of the financial climate in our community is invaluable. We look forward to his continued leadership in keeping Citizens First one of the finest financial institutions in Rome.”

Smith is a graduate of Darlington School and received his bachelor’s degree from Centre College of Kentucky. He earned a master’s degree from the University of Georgia and a Juris Doctor from the Mercer University School of Law. He was admitted to the Georgia bar in 1980 and is a partner with Brinson, Askew, Berry, Seigler, Richardson & Davis, LLP.

Smith is a member of the Rome Bar Association and the State Bar of Georgia. He served for 15 years on the board of the Rome Boys & Girls Clubs and is currently a member of the Rome Area Chamber of Commerce and the Coosa Country Club. He is a communicant of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. He is married to the former Elaine Hackett and has two sons, Ben and Drew.
