Alvin Scott, street department director for the city of Rome, died unexpectedly Saturday at his home in Marietta.

Scott, 39, headed the department since 2007, managing many projects for the city — including the recently opened J.L. Todd Drive.

“Alvin was not only an integral part

of the city’s

management team, he was a great person, co-worker and friend who will be missed by all” Public Works Director Jamie McCord said.

Scott was a native of Hopkins, S.C., and a graduate of South Carolina State University with a degree in civil engineering. He came to the city of Rome from the Georgia Department of Transportation, where he worked as a project engineer in metro Atlanta for 11 years.

“Mr. Scott was an extraordinary individual,” said Public Services Manager Kirk Milam. “He brought good humor, dedication and professionalism with him every day.”

Scott is survived by his wife, Tracy, and his son, Jackson Scott, also of Marietta. He will be buried in his hometown of Hopkins after funeral arrangements are finalized.
