The Task Force on Homeless, a group comprised of representatives from 40 different area groups, has completed its
Breaking the Cycle of Homelessness plan and is looking to present the plan to the Rome City Commission in January.
The plan is the result of about a year’s worth of work, including two counts of homeless individuals in the area and a homelessness resource fair to provide community outreach.
Representatives of the task force say that completing the plan is only the first step. Now the real work is set to begin, they say.
Their study shows that on any given night between 200 and 400 people are literally homeless in Floyd County, and they hope to improve this number by breaking the cycle that leads to homeless and helping those that are already homeless. The plan includes 23 steps to try and reach this goal using existing resources and developing new programs to prevent new homelessness.
The task force hopes its plan, which can be viewed online, will be adopted and/or endorsed by the City Commission.
