A federal judge denied bond for a Rome man accused of child pornography possession after testimony Wednesday revealed the man had violated several terms of previous Floyd County bond — including allegedly having inappropriate contact with a child.

Chadwick Keith Brannon, 26, allegedly had six videos and three still images on his computer when he was arrested on counterfeiting charges in October 2008.

Brannon was convicted of attempting to pass a counterfeit $20 bill in Cherokee County, Ala. Federal agents confiscated more counterfeit money from his Rome residence as well as computer equipment they said were involved in the manufacture of the bills.

This was when federal agents allegedly found the videos in question on Brannon’s computer, testified U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency Special Agent Jim Rives.

In addition to investigating immigration offenses, ICE investigates allegations of child pornography, child sex tourism and human smugglers as well.

Rives testified he interviewed Brannon, who denied downloading or possession of the pornography.

“He said his apartment was open and thousands of people had access to the computer,” Rives said. However, the agent testified others — including Brannon’s grandmother, said they had caught him with the illicit films.

Brannon was arrested and charged in Floyd County with five felony counts of sexual exploitation of a child, concerning the same videos, and released on $35,000 bond on Feb 16, 2009.

Part of his bond condition was to have no contact with children — however, testimony in the detention hearing Wednesday revealed Brannon had reportedly slept in the same bed with a child on numerous occasions and attended a children’s football game at least twice.

“That to me is a serious issue,” U.S. Magistrate Judge Walter E. Johnson said before denying Brannon bond on the federal charges.

In addition, testimony by a Walker County Sheriff’s Office detective revealed there is a pending investigation against Brannon.

Detective Sgt. Caroline Cobb said the department is currently collaborating with Whitfield County law enforcement in an investigation of additional allegations involving Brannon.
