An Adairsville man was killed Wednesday evening in a one-vehicle wreck on Ga. 140 just inside Bartow County that had the road blocked for hours.

The Georgia State Patrol reported that around 6 p.m. Wednesday, a black Ford F-250 pickup truck eastbound on Ga. 140 lost control on the east shoulder, hit something and went airborne, clipping a power pole and breaking it in half. The truck then slammed into a large pine tree before spinning to a stop.

The driver, 46-year-old Bryan Plumley of a Princeton Avenue address in Adairsville, was thrown from the truck and pronounced dead at the scene.

The wreck was near the state road’s intersection with Big Oak Tree Road about four miles west of Adairsville.

Emergency responders on the scene included DOT trucks, Bartow Rescue, Bartow EMS and Georgia State Patrol.

Georgia Power was called to the scene to clear downed lines from the broken power pole.

@deplumley: I cannot even imagine what you and your family are going through. I don't think any one of us can say we haven't driven above the speed limit, although I haven't heard in any news report that he even was speeding. I am so sorry for your loss.

I wowould like to thank everyone for the thoughts and prayers, even the negative ones. It may not have occurred to you that there was a reason for him being in a hurry. The one thing good, is that there wasn't anyone else involved. Never the less, there is a mother and father without a son; two children without a father; a wife without her husband; a sister without a brother, and most of all, me without my best friend for 46 years... my brother. He will be dearly missed by many. I apolagize to anyone who may have been inconvenienced by him slowing down your busy day. He will not ever do it again, I promise. God Bless You All.

Thank you RN-T for keeping this blog cleaned.

I am blessed and count it an honor of knowing Scott for the past 15 years. Scott was fun and a great person to be around. Although we knew eachother on a professional level we were able to build our friendship over the years. I will miss Scott. My prayers go out to the family as they go forward with their lives.

Thanks for allowing me to post a comment.

Scott was a wonderful man! He was are best friend!

When tomorrow starts without me, and I'm not there to see, if the sun should rise and find your eyes all filled with tears for me..I wish so much you wouldn't cry the way you did today, while thinking of the many things we didn't get to say. I know how much you love me, as much as I love you and each time you think of me, I know you'll miss me too; But when tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand that an angel came and called my name, and took me by the hand and said my place was ready, in heaven far above, and that I'd have to leave behind all those I dearly love! So when tomorrow starts whothout me, don't think we're far apart, for every time you think of me, I'm right here, in YOUR HEART!!

This is a very dangerous stretch of road. The plans to widen the road couldn't come to soon. Don't know if that would have helped present this accident.

My prayers and thoughts are with this whole family!!!I truely understand what you all are going thru and all of you(us) (friends)that knows this family.I know and am good friends with him and his family.I cant believe the remarks and negative comments on this article.Thou shall not judge! we all know this we were all taught it. The end result is the man in the big house had bigger plans for him.he has fullfilled his job here on this path and moved to the next step.My heart felt sympathy for the family and all his friends and all who had the joy and chance to meet a wonderful man and family.

I knew this man and his family personaly. He was a great friend an all around awesome person. This is a tragic thing his family and friends are going though right now. It is sad that most of the people who have comments on this accident are more concerned about the power being out til midnight or that people speed going on 140. This is some ones husband, father, son and friend. If the tables where turned and it was somebody you knew, would you want people posting comments about speed or the power? Instead of looking at the negative... PRAY for his family in their time of need. Maybe the world would be a better place if people looked at what they can do to help instead of complaining about bad.

I drive 140 twice a day and there are wrecks almost every day! This one just happen to end a life. I wish more people would slow down on this road.

This is not the time or place to discuss the speed with which he was driving. A family lost a father, husband, and son last night. Having to hear that he was speeding down a road implies that it was his fault and since we were not there and do not know that circumstances we can not just assume that speeding caused that accident. Not to mention that will only cause the family more pain. My thoughts and prayers are with the family in this very difficult time. Rely on God for comfort and strength. Having lost a loved one in a car accident, I understand your pain and suffering. Even though you may not understand why, just keep praying to God and he will bring you through. Let the love of God comfort and carry you during this time. Praying for you all.

I was also on my way home from work last night and was just a few cars behind this accident. This man flew past me on 53 just a few minutes before his accident. My prayers go out to his family and I know this is a difficult time for them, but I beg of everyone who reads this...please slow down on 140.

They turned the power out at about 8:30pm so that they could replace the power pole. It came back on at midnight.

I had just got off from work in Adairsville and was headed home to Rome when I was caught in the traffic around 6:15. My prayers go out to the family of the man that was killed in this wreck. God Bless.
