A “chemical explosion” at MFG Chemical on Callahan Road in Dalton this morning has resulted in “no reports of serious injuries at this time,” but 24 employees from a nearby Beaulieu building are being decontaminated near the site, according to Dalton Police Department Spokesman Bruce Frazier.

An undertmined number of people were transported to Hamilton Medical Center for decontamination.

The accident occurred while MFG was manufacturing a product they call Coagulant 129. It is used in water treatment and can cause skin or respiratory irritation, Frazier said.

"it is my understanding that none of the people being decontaminated had symptoms," he said.

At this time, there is no evacuation or danger to the public in the area, Frazier said. Residents within a half mile of the site have been advised to stay in their homes at this time.

Callahan Road and Hamilton Street Extension are closed at this time.

The call was reported at 8:50 a.m.
