The aluminum fishing boat was partially crumpled and its trailer dented after it separated from a white Ford F-350 being driven westbound by Gregory Smith of Plainville, according to Rome Police Pfc. Danny Story.
The errant boat rolled across several lanes of traffic and collided with the front end of a white Ford F-150 owned by the Rome Water Department. The vehicle, driven by Jeff Wenzel of Calhoun, was traveling eastbound.
The force of the impact caused the airbag to deploy in Wenzel’s truck, and he received a minor laceration to his cheek that did not require treatment. The collision caused the boat to come off of its trailer, and various bits of debris from the loaded boat were dispersed along the roadway.
Smith was charged with failure to secure a load.
