Any Hickory fans that brought brooms to the park on Sunday afternoon were unable to use them.

The Rome Braves got another great outing from their starter and enough offense to avoid a four-game sweep by downing the Crawdads, 5-1, in the series finale.

Arodys Vizcaino (6-3) worked 7 2-3 innings and allowed only five hits while striking out nine. He limited Hickory to one unearned run while upping his team-high win total.

The Braves got two runs in the fourth and three in the ninth to support t Vizcaino’s gem.

Mycal Jones did the heavy lifting for the offense, driving in four of the five Braves’ runs. Jones finished 2-for-4.

The other run was driven in by Jake Hanson’s double in the ninth. Cory Harrilchak added two hits, and Matthew Weaver had a double.

The bullpen did its job with Julio Surinach and Dalton Acord combining for 1 1-3 innings of scoreless relief.

Prior to Sunday’s game, the Braves had managed a total of only five runs in the series while losing three straight.

Tonight, the Braves open a four-game series in Augusta.
