Band History

C.J. and The Poets are a side-project grown out of local bluegrass and Americana favorite The Groundhawgs.

“I think Groundhawgs fans will enjoy what we’ve got in store,” said Clayton Jones, frontman of the band. “This is a little more rockin’ than the bluegrass numbers,” he said. Jones, guitar and lead vocals, has been playing music in the Northwest Georgia area for the past 20 years.

In addition to his work with the Groundhawgs, he has been playing guitar for the Georgia Griddle Lickers as well as performing original compositions with his brother, Clark Jones.

Jones is joined by Sean Bennett on drums. Bennett is from Silver Creek. Recently, Bennett has been touring with Julie Gribble, a singer-song writer from L.A. Finishing out the line-up for the Mad Poets is Chris Hodges on standup bass. Hodges is an artist and educator living in Rome, GA currently teaching art at Rome High School.

“I just want to make good art,” said Hodges. See www.chrishodgesfineart.com for more information.
