Cary Cooper is married to Cynthia Pilgrim Cooper, 14 years, has two children Maggie, 13, and Hollie, 11.

I served the U.S. Navy from 1984 until 1988, and received an honorable discharge.

I am recently retired from the Floyd County Police Dept. after serving Floyd County for 20 years.

As the Republican candidate for Sheriff I bring experience, values, and integrity to the office. I recognize a need for strategic planning within the Sheriffs Dept. that works toward problem solving.

My plan extends an open dialog to county commissioners, and law enforcement leaders within Floyd County to address realistic law enforcement issues we face.

This plan allows for an on going evaluation of service pro-vided by the sheriff, that incorporates community viewpoints and exchange of ideas in order to promote maximum results.

Within the community I am recognized for my fair and im-partial enforcement of law. As a sergeant in patrol I am known for professionalism, logical problem solving skills, and commitment to continuously strive toward solutions.

I don't understand why there is party politics involved at the Sheriff level. Republican vs Democrat? Come on now.

There is party politics at EVERY level, and it all eventually comes down to power and control.

I served many years in Law Enforcement in another state and I've had the opportunity to see Sheriff Burkhalter in "action" and I will tell you that I am not impressed. I wouldn't vote for him if my life depended on it. Oh wait, it kinda does. And I still won't vote for him.

Working with Copper for years I can say that he is an honest man that does treat people with respect. I beleive that he will run the sheriff department with intergrity. It is time we have some actual law enforcement experience in the sheriffs office. Cooper has been enforcing the laws in this county for 20 years keeping our citizens safe. I would much rather have a law enforcement professional representing my county than a security professional.

The sheriff's office received National Accrediation in January 2012, CALEA the top accrediation for the nation. How would he improve on that?

gonegooddog,

Do you really think he is going to IMPROVE on that, or anything else for that matter? You must have been kidding. Mr. Cooper doesn't even realize that is the Floyd County Sheriff OFFICE, not DEPARTMENT. I wonder if Mr. Cooper even realizes that there is a difference between the two. I think if I were going to run for office, I would at least know the proper name of the office I was running for. I'm afraid the only thing Mr. Cooper will be running for is the unemployment line.
