Let’s grant that the “economic engine” of the Atlanta metro is technically at the bottom righthand corner of a geographic “Northwest Georgia” on a map. It’s also in the lower lefthand corner of “Northeast Georgia” and has its feet up to the ankles in “Central Georgia.”
Hence, it is amusing to note that the state’s current $950 million proposal to add toll lanes to Interstate 75 as far north as Hickory Grove Road (that’s Acworth) and Interstate 575 all the way to Sixes Road (that’s Canton) is a project being called the Northwest Corridor. Seems the Atlanta-based planners don’t even have a compass to point them in a true “Northwest Georgia” direction. No wonder it is so hard for drivers to locate Rome from the interstate system.
By the way, according to news reports it seems this toll-road plan from the governor’s office would have the state deciding “how and when to repay the private partners that invest in the project.”
Apparently the state’s guiding hands know as little about finance as they do geography.
