SUMMERVILLE — The Paradise Garden Foundation announces that Finster Fest will be taking place this year at Dowdy Park on May 5th and 6th in Summerville, GA. This Year will be the grand re-opening of Paradise Garden with visitors entering through what was Howard Finster's Studio, now exhibited as a small museum. Finster Fest is one of North Georgia’s most popular Folk Art and Music Festivals. Finster Fest 2012 will be host to performing acts such as Roger Allen Wade, Patterson Hood of the Drive by Truckers and many others. Finster Fest 2012 will host Artist’s from all over the nation. The two day festival will offer a shuttle to Paradise Garden for special tours. Summerville Better Hometown Manager Sylvia-Lee Keziah said “Finster Fest being back in Downtown Summerville as it originally started will allow visitors a chance to see not only Paradise Garden by shuttle but also our very active art community. We have so much vibrancy and interest with local artists in our downtown right now and this can be witnessed with a recent surge in new businesses that have opened."

More about the Garden

Paradise Garden Located in Summerville, Georgia, is a maze of buildings, sculptures and displays.

The Gardens were built from found objects and recycled materials ranging from bottles, bathtubs and toilets to bicycle frames and cast-off jewelry. The setting is a two-acre swampland that is drained by numerous canals. Paradise Garden has attained international pop icon status since its creation. Howard Finster's Outdoor art environment has been the subject of many documentaries and articles.

The site is Listed by many travel publications as a top destination. Images of the site can be seen on cover Art and is included in music videos from groups like REM, Black Hawk and the Talking Heads. Howard Finster cultivated a landscape that also included other artist's work at the Garden, such As Pop Art icon Keith Haring. Howard and his garden were also featured on NBC’s The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

The Paradise Garden Foundation is actively working to restore Paradise Garden and to promote area tourism.
