Hays State Prison named Facility of the Year

 Forsyth – The Department of Corrections honored Hays State Prison as Facility of the Year at the Eighth Annual GDC Awards ceremony on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at State Offices South at Tift College in Forsyth, Georgia.

Warden Clayton Tatum accepted the award on behalf of Hays State Prison. “Hays State Prison is truly successful in achieving the Department’s mission of effectively managing offenders,” said Commissioner Brian Owens. “They truly go above and beyond,” added Owens.

The Facility of the Year award is presented to a facility that consistently scores well on various GDC report card measures including audits, bed utilization, vacancy rates, and staff turnover rates.

Hays State Prison, located in Trion, is a close security facility with 410 staff members and approximately 1614 offenders. Hays State Prison houses close security offenders with behavioral problems and Mental Health Level II offenders.

Several key officials were on hand for the ceremony, which was attended by more than 200 guests. Making the award presentation with the Commissioner were Board of Corrections Secretary Rose Williams, Assistant Commissioner Timothy C. Ward and special guest speaker, State Representative Jay Neal.
