I WAS IN a local business this past week and noticed a “small business of the year” award in the business. Suprisingly, my father, René Fountain (BoJangles’) has never received this award from the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce.

René has had businesses in Rome since 1978 and I think there are few men in Rome who have done more for their community than he has and to top it off, almost all of his money has stayed in Rome often helping other businesses, friends, family and partners in their time of need.

René has sold his Rome and Cartersville units of Bojangles but he still owns the property on which these stores do business. He also owns several residences in Rome and helps others with attaining residence in Rome via financing and/or rental units.

I think it is absolutely appropriate for me to nominate my father as Father of the Year for 2012.

He has without question, been there for me and provided for me when I know that I didn’t deserve it. I am now and will be forever grateful for the love and support from him. Rome and Floyd County Schools, churches, businesses, charities, families, in need etc. have all been blessed beyond measure from René Fountain, and I think we should make this Sunday June 17. René Fountain day in Rome-Floyd County.
