Georgia Farm Bureau honored John and Ivy Lowrey of Floyd County for their service on the GFB Young Farmer Committee during the organization’s annual convention on Jekyll Island recently.

John Lowrey serves as vice president of the Floyd County Farm Bureau, and the couple chair the FCFB Young Farmer Committee. They have served on the GFB state Young Farmer Committee for two years and will complete their term on the state committee at the end of the month.

“It’s definitely a program I’d suggest,” John Lowrey said. “You make some friends for life in meeting all the other committee members, and the contacts you make can help you and Farm Bureau at the same time. It’s a great thing to be able to bounce ideas off of each other.”

The Lowreys live in Rome with their son, 3-year-old Julian, and they produce corn and soybeans as well as raising 100 head of beef cattle. They also grow produce for sale at their roadside market.

“Young farmers are the future of Farm Bureau, and it’s vitally important to have them involved in promoting agriculture,” said GFB President Zippy Duvall. “We greatly appreciate John and Ivy’s work in support of their fellow farmers.”
