State Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Cassville) recently traveled to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada to discuss red light cameras. The lawmaker is a longtime critic of the cameras.

According to Loudermilk, there is little regulation over the use of photo enforcement in the Manitoba provence, and virtually no regulation on the timing of the yellow light signals at intersections where cameras are operated.

Through the group “Wise Up Winnipeg,” Loudermilk spoke to members of the Manitoba legislature about House Bill 77, which was passed in Georgia in 2008. The bill requires local governments to add an additional second to the yellow light timing at intersections where red light cameras are operated.

The meetings in Manitoba were preceded by a press conference at the historic Fort Garry Hotel.

Loudermilk said the trip was wholly paid for through private funds, and not at taxpayer expense.
