A Rome man remained in critical condition Sunday, hospitalized for injuries he received in a wreck on Friday night.

According Sgt. Trixie Morgan of the Rome Police Department:

Steve Kennedy, 61, was charged

with felony serious bodily injury to a passenger, as well as misdemeanors DUI, driving with an expired license and failure to maintain lane.

Kennedy, of Rome, was driving a maroon Chrysler New Yorker inbound on Turner McCall near Kroger when the vehicle suddenly veered onto the sidewalk and struck a tree head-on. The vehicle spun and landed on the embankment. Kennedy was ejected from the vehicle, and the passenger, identified as Tina Michelle Davis, 43, of Rome, was trapped inside.

According to a Rome police report, Kennedy told police he had picked Davis up on Branham Avenue and wasn’t sure of her last name.

Both were taken to Floyd Medical Center.

The hospital had no record of Davis, spokesman Bill Fortenberry said. The police report indicated that Davis was found on the floorboard of the car with a head injury.
