Jason Stephens, who purchased North Georgia Mediation from Sarah Burkhalter in the fall of 2010, has moved the business to 1408 Dean Avenue, Suite B.

For years, the business was located at 109 East Eighth Avenue in downtown Rome.

Stephens, who has worked around the law most of his life, is certified in domestic and family mediation. The firm also offers parenting classes.

Any civil cases filed in the Floyd County courts have to go to mediation before it can go to trial as part of a procedure to relive potentially large backlogs in the court system.

The mediation firm has about ten mediators who work with him. Some are actual attorneys, others are not.

North Georgia Mediation is the only privately held mediation firm in Rome.

“I’m a native Roman and I really love mediation,” Stephens said. “We don’t have any certainty in life but parties can come here and mediate and have certainty, or leave it up to a stranger to write an agreement.”

Stephens said that people who participate in mediation do not necessarily have to come with an attorney.
